Joanne Last

Fine Artist & Musician

Profile

Joanne originally trained as a classical pianist but, coming from a family of artists, has pursued art and music in parallel throughout her career.

Her predominantly abstract work is intuitive and experimental, inspired by urban, rural and coastal landscapes. She works fast and freely, layering paint, building up texture and encountering colour surprises, all of which create a rich surface in the finished paintings:

I don’t plan ahead as to what the finished piece might look like. I have to step off the creative edge in order to fall into something that engages me. My best work always comes from a place of risk and experiment.

Joanne has exhibited extensively at the Mall Galleries in London, and with The Pastel Society, The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and The Society of Women Artists.
